The Victoria da Vinci trilogy of novels is a historical science-fantasy adventure that tells (a small part of) the story of the amazing life of Ethel Brandeis, a brilliant woman born in the Midwest in the year 1865.
Raised in a socially progressive colony led by an idealistic philosopher, Ethel learned to speak six languages, and even as a little girl she showed a remarkable genius for math and engineering. When she went away to college to pursue her dream of becoming a great scientist and inventor, however, she quickly discovered that she was not welcome there.
Realizing that a Jewish lesbian like herself would never be taken seriously by the 19th century American academic community, yet more determined than ever to succeed, she developed an alternative strategy. Ethel returned to her childhood interest in singing and dancing, adopted a new identity as Victoria da Vinci, and started a risqu traveling dance troupe. Using the profits from this lucrative but dangerous venture, she would go on to fund her own research as she chased her ultimate ambition: to save the world with her artistic and technological endeavors. But a powerful, relentless figure from her youth seeks to thwart her at every step.
